Pubs and Discos, are they any good for the youth?
"Youth is the spirit of adventure and awakening. It is a time of physical emerging when the body attains the vigor and good health that may ignore the caution of temperance. Youth is a period of timelessness when the horizons of age seem too distant to be noticed"----Ezra Taft Benson
The youths of our country, the heirs of this vast and diverse nation have contributed effectively towards economic and social transformations. Comprising of the maximum population of our country, they are the people full of high energy and amazing abilities, keen to learn new flavors of life. The youths develop a quite distinct culture which is different from the cultural norms of the society. These traits can be good such as hard work, dedication, zeal to achieve goals and physical fitness. But on the other hand, these can be bad as well including drug addiction, violence, eve teasing or working and enjoying under the Western influences.
Present day youths have started imitating the West in every aspect of life, be it in dress, hairstyle, food, music or dance. Indigenous classical and folk music are being substituted with pop-numbers; concept of gender- frees clothing alien to our beliefs and traditions are becoming their favorites. Dancing in pubs and womanizing have become their favorite pastimes.
But the lifestyle of today's youths are confined only to gizmo gadgets, discos and pubs.Nightouts, lounging in the pubs, tapping their feet to the rocking music in discs are the common features of lifestyle of urban youth today. These pubs are thriving despite of a weak economy because a large no of youths are drawn towards them. These pubs and discos are greatly spoiling today's youths. Careless attitude towards life and disrespect towards elders are some of the consequences these pubs and discos have on the youth.
Some sort of entertainment is understandable at the young age. But carrying on with the bad habits of smoking and drinking and getting addicted to the pub culture is definitely not a good sign for the future world. Some of the youths even resort to these pubs and discos to come out of their depressing state of mind at work or academics and hence, get addicted to it. These pubs and discos are a hub of illegal activities such as drugs, gambling, and match betting. The pub managers even hire young girls to attract more customers to satisfy their physical demands.
Disco music too has an undesirable effect on the youngster's moral, spiritual and ethical development. All night dancing does no good to young growing organisms; cut contrarily kills them gradually with every bout. This way, disco imposes extremely calamitous effect on its listeners.
Recently a study shows that 80% of the pubs don't check the age of their visitors and so teens below 18 are allowed to get into such pubs and have liquor.
MEASURES THAT CAN BE TAKEN
The Govt. should take stern steps to limit the timings of these pubs and discos.
There should be a regular check by the police to avoid illegal activities to be conducted at these places.
Youths should be taught about the ill effect of these pubs and discos on their life.
Teens below the age of 18 should not be allowed entry into such discos and pubs and should not be allowed to consume liquor.
Parents should also talk about such issues with the teenagers to avoid them to fall in such a trap.
CONCLUSION
In the name of modern there should not be indecency & vulgarity. The awareness of adhering to values should come in every youth's mind by themselves and not by forcing them. Let us behave like a matured people with wisdom as we have lot of tasks left than to brood over the past.
We are the light of the future, entertainment is fine up to certain limit but we must draw a line between our responsibility and fun. We must learn to be even more responsible and see the world in a much wider perspective. We must show to the rest of the world that if we take some kind of responsibility even we can prove out to be the best.
