'Youth', the term itself reflects energy, enthusiasm and optimism. 'Youthfulness' in today's world has more or less become synonymous with 'High Confidence, a fighting spirit, an urge towards a quick outcome, a work hard and party harder' kind of attitude. It would, therefore, not be wrong to say that today's youth is more impatient than the youth a few decades ago.

But that is what probably Charles Darwin would term as 'Evolution'. The youth in the paleolithic age had the patience to wait for days probably before they could hunt a small or big game to feed themselves. But with each passing generation, the degree of patience reduced and man started looking for a rather continuous supply of food. Thus, agriculture came into existance. Settled cultivation satisfied the youth of those generations for a certain period of time but the ever evolving gene of growing impatience could not restrict him for long and he took to mechanized ways of life. The youth lost the patience it required to work manually. He was frustrated with the snail pace at which hand made products were made. This led to the industrial revolution. Impatience have grown to such an extent with time that today's youth can almost control all his life activities with a button press, whether it is a small thing as washing clothes or something as complicated as launching a spacecraft. There is a race going on everywhere. And Darwin's theory of 'Survival of the fittest' and 'Selective Elimination' is what even the nature has followed all throughout its history of evolution. The love towards fast paced rock music, the lack of interest in traditional art and culture, the detachment from the roots of our past are all results of increasing impatience.

Yes, to a great extent, development is the product, or rather a desirable product of the growing impatience in the Youth. But we cannot ignore the wagons of undesirable by-products of growing impatience that has created havock in today's society. On one hand, there is increased violence, rage and aggression in todays youth and on the other hand lack of impatience, an unreasonably high optimism for fast and positive outcome and inability to cope up with failure often leades to stress, strain, depression and other psychological disorders and in extreme cases suicidal tendencies.

True that today's fast life, increasing competion and a never-ending demand of materialistic pleasure has compelled the youth to lose their capability to be patient. In many ways, impatience has given birth to super- achievers and super-successful people. But the youth need to learn one thing - to draw the line. There has to be a limit to everything, which once exceeded can only generate negative results. May be, it is only natural to become more and more impatient with the advent of every new generation. May be, growing impatience is just another basic instinct like hunger and sex. But when Man has learnt to control nature itself then it would be incorrect to deny his control over his basic instincts.
